Aechmea mariae-reginae
This is an especially large and robust form of this magnificent beauty! A large to giant grower that forms a grayish-green and bronzy blushing rosette up to 4 feet across or more. The inflorescence is spectacular; a compound head of small flowers forms a white cone-like inflorescence about the size and shape of a large ear of corn. The scape bracts are very large and vivid rose red.
This species is a signature plant of the lowland forests of eastern Costa Rica where blooming plants can be seen from great distances growing on tall trees or rock outcroppings. A showpiece in the subtropical garden.
