Billbergia porteana
A spectacular, large growing helicoid reaching nearly 3 feet tall with a pendant inflorescence bearing huge pink bracts and showy green and blue flowers. These are seed grown plants. Our seeds were sourced from Lucas Assis who says: Â They were collected in two locations in Minas Gerais state, in Brazil: Â Santana do Riacho and Morro do Pilar. Both locations are in cerrado formations (savannah) and transition of cerrado to atlantic rainforest. Because it grows in nature in open areas, Billbergia porteana loves strong light.
At Tropiflora we find that this species is easy to grow but a little slower than some other, similar species.
