Billbergia ‘Tarantello’
An outstanding Beadle hybrid of ‘Esta Bien’ x (‘Ed Mcwilliams’ x amoena rubra). Outstanding is an overused word and is inadequate with many of Don Beadle’s hybrids.
This one is exceptional, in my opinion at least. A robust, broad rosette of upright but flaring and arching, wide leaves form a stout, well-formed plant. A single ‘Tarantello‘ is a presence of its own and doesn’t need to be in a clump to have that kind of gravity that only so few plants have.
The coloration is stunning, reddish pink, with hardly a hint of green, suffused with a dense pattern of white spotting that sometimes joins to form streaks. Silver banding completes the look of a brilliant show stopper. The inflorescence is fairly short and erect, with large, bright red bracts and pale greenish branches and flowers.
An absolutely must-have plant!
